Should I feel guilty?

You should only feel guilty for conning people (i.e. trying to convince them a tormented weapon is only worth 70k). I buy stuff cheap if people are posting them that cheap only. I got a manta the other day for 42k. The guy had been sitting them for a while so it's pretty obvious nobody bothered to look in party search and he didn't bother switching districts. I don't deliberately lowball people. It's like stepping into a store with a blowout sale. You don't feel guilty for that, do you? Now if you try to talk someone into selling their mini for a ridiculous offer then it's different. The way I see it, time is money and if they have been there for 4 hours spamming WTS whatever, they are probably glad to get rid of it.'
On the other hand, I have had someone try to sell me a Windblade spear for 50K before when I regularly buy them for 2K. He then called me a noob when I said there's nobody that's going to pay 50K for it because supposedly it is as rare as a demoncrest.

I suggest not buying tonics or minipets unless either you get a great deal, or you have a mountain of ectos so it doesn't affect your trading. They are quite annoying to sell.

I think an agreed upon trade is fair, however many deals are gotten on ignorance. I don't mind this IRL, because I think that's more of a true craft.
In GW, I feel it's a bit cheap because there isn't a reliable, dedicated source to get appraisals from. Random Assassin might reply to your PC, who could be a power trader looking to score, or Johnny Chaos Gloves might get it wrong. This is exactly why power trading is so successful, because an informed community knowing what items are actually worth would cripple this practice.
And if you're making friends along the way, I'm kind of shocked. If I found out my "friend" snags his/her wares on the cheap and is using me for a cash cow because I don't know the market (because I'm busy playing the game), I'm not exactly going to stay friendly.

This is a really good bit of advice (just discovered this thread). I'm not a powertrader by any stretch but I have noticed that there are a lot of items (like low req shields) that aren't bought and sold a lot so they can have a drastically variable value. That leaves a lot of room for "buying low and selling high" (in good conscience no less).
Another bit of advice that I would offer is to be quick on the draw if someone throws at a killer "WTS" deal in the trade chat. A lot of times to get the item you need to open that trade window really fast before other people beat you to it. I once bought a Q11 Death Magic Bone Dragon Staff from a guy who sold it outright in trade chat for 80k.
If can select someone's name on the chat window and hit Control-C. That copies it to the clipboard. Click on your Party Window and hit Control-V, that paste's their name there. Hit Enter to request they join your party. If if they don't accept, you can double click their name if they are in compass range, your character will run toward them (unless their party is full). This is a really quick way to find someone rather than looking around or manually typing their misspelled toon name and making typos. Someone taught this to me and it made trading so convenient.
BTW, if you are poor and want to buy and sell a fairly cheap item, don't be afraid to buy and sell in-demand greens. You can actually make 3-5k profit per sale very easily as people are constantly outfitting new toons and heroes. (go on, lay on the hate you elitist green haters... ....)

I second this. I also started out trading greens.

I bought an EL yule and wintergreen shield from some guy yesterday for 35e. These were HIS offer. I sold the shield for 25e and the tonic for 250e within about an hour of spamming.
And people say powertrading only makes 30k an hour lol.
2000k an hour if you luck out. Its like poker.

I suck at this - please find a way to stop me attempting this .
Everything I buy I either pay too much or don't have the patience to sell for a good price.
I keep quitting, but then coming back - help, I might be an addict

I suggest selling unded mini's in The Eye of the North, there are typically more inexperienced buyers there trying to fill up their HoM.

Some of the information here in this guide might be outdated (not a lot, I'd say). If somebody wants to update the guide, feel free to send me a PM

Guide is still current IMO.
Maybe change your examples with something more current (greens are a dying/dead market)
Some points that might be worth mentioning -
*Never invest more then 25% of your liquid cash in 1 item.
*Look to make a minimum of 25% profit from a large trade. Smaller trades look more towards 50% profit minimum.
*Never mod to sell
*If a certain market looks like it's down trending take a smaller profit and run (EL tonics as an example)
*Always keep weird items. There will be a buyer out there somewhere.
**Always make an effort to play the game once in a while. There was times when all I would do was stand in LA/Kamadan for weeks. You have to play else you will get bored.
